"No" is celebrated throughout Greece,
Cyprus and the Greek Diaspora
throughout the world on October 28th
and is Greece's second National Day.

The day is celebrated to commemorate
Greece's then Prime Minister,
Ioannis Metaxas' rejection of an
ultimatum made to Greece by Italian
dictator Mussolini to allow the the
Axis forces to enter Greek soil
and to make use of strategic locations
that were not to be specified.
Mussolini's demands were answered
with a single laconic word "OXI"
....in other words "NO" !
On the morning of October 28 the
Greek population took to the streets,
irrespective of political affiliation,
shouting 'ohi'.
Since 1942, it
has been celebrated as Ohi Day.

The events of 1940 are commemorated
every year with military and student parades. On
every anniversary, most public buildings
and residences are decorated
with Greek flags.
