Urban Rail in center of Highway is a common solution
in combating the gridlock traffic conditions in this metropolis.

The First Metro line of Athens is over a century old....
It has linked the harbor/port area with Athens center
all the up to the northern suburb of Kifisia.
It officially was opened in 1868.
It has gone through various stages
of improvements including the relining and
structuring of the rail lines so as to bring the
speed of these trains to 80 km/h or 50 MPH
to be at par with the other newer metro lines
as well as the replacement of the trains pictured
above with newer carriages as in the newer metro/subway cars.

Some things never change...Athenians love driving everywhere....
